Hillsman hopes road games on 2012-13 schedule pay off come postseason play
The Syracuse women’s basketball team released its 2012-13 schedule, which includes nine games against teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament last season.
After playing in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament for the fourth straight season in 2011-12, Quentin Hillsman’s program is once again looking to get back to the NCAA tournament. Hillsman said in a press release Thursday that the team’s schedule reflects that goal.
The Orange will play seven of its first eight games away from home, something Hillsman hopes will strengthen the team’s postseason resume. SU will take on Georgia Tech and Virginia at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico in November as part of that stretch.
The team also faces a challenging conference slate in its final season in the Big East. In a league that features perennial powerhouses and 2012 Final Four teams in Notre Dame and Connecticut, SU will be tested. The team also takes on Temple in Philadelphia in a rematch of the teams’ third-round game in the WNIT last season. The Orange won 82-68.
SU has yet to announce exact times for most games, and those set already are subject to change.
The team opens its season on Sunday, Nov. 11 against Fairleigh Dickinson in the Carrier Dome.
