First-year master’s student dies at family home on Saturday

A first-year Syracuse University master’s student died at her family’s home on Saturday.

Kelsey Hogarth was working toward her master’s degree in advertising in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. She received a bachelor’s degree in Communication and Rhetorical Studies last year from the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Interim Chancellor Eric Spina said in an email sent to the SU community.

Spina described Hogarth as “bright, sensitive and multi-talented.” She also worked as a tutor, student employee in Newhouse, entrepreneur and aspiring author.

Spina referred grieving students and members of the SU community to the Counseling Center, Hendricks Chapel and Faculty and Staff Assisstance Program, and said, “our hearts go out to Kelsey’s family, friends, colleagues, and the faculty and staff who knew her.”
