Syracuse basketball recruiting: Alterique Gilbert will announce decision on Saturday
Class of 2016 Point Guard Alterique Gilbert will announce where he will commit on Saturday morning, he posted on Instagram Friday night.
The Miller Grove (Georgia) High School product announced his top five, which includes Syracuse, Texas, Louisville and Connecticut, in May. Gilbert said that Syracuse is his “dream school” in an interview with Scout.com’s Evan Daniels, but that Syracuse had also slowed his recruitment. Scout ranks Gilbert the 40th-best player in the Class of 2016. SU also is recruiting Class of 2016 point guard Tyus Battle, who decommitted from Michigan and Scout ranks 20 spots ahead of Gilbert.
The Orange added transfer Paschal Chukwu five days ago, which clouds SU’s scholarship situation going forward. Syracuse will not have a scholarship available in 2016 unless a player under scholarship leaves the team or the Orange’s appeal of its NCAA rules violations results in SU regaining a scholarship.
