Musician Nick Jonas leaves Funk 'n Waffles followed by a small crowd.

A loud crowd of girls peered into the front entrance of Funk ‘n Waffles University Hill. The line spilled up the stairs, waiting for someone to leave the establishment. The door had been locked, but as patrons left, hordes of people flooded in.

Musician Nick Jonas stopped by the Syracuse hot spot Monday afternoon, before his scheduled performance at The New York State Fair Chevy Court at 6 p.m. Monday. He sat toward the back of the space near the stage with four other men, in a black T-shirt and grey hat.

As he waited for his food and ate, small groups of girls walked tentatively toward his table, introducing themselves and asking to snap a photo. Jonas smiled and nodded at most groups, but refused pictures requests. Nick Jonas declined to provide any comment to The Daily Orange.

“So I walked in and I saw him at the table, so me and my roommate asked if we could grab a quick selfie with him, and his security guys were like, ‘Girls we are eating, please respect that,’” said Adriana Totino, a junior in finance, retail and marketing major. “So I said, ‘Oh, I am sorry, please enjoy your time at Syracuse.’”

When Jonas decided to leave, security surrounded him pushing back small groups of people trying to grab photos of the celebrity. A white Sheraton Hotel van was waiting in front of Bruegger’s Bagels to drive him away.

As he left,  Brittany Ehrlich and Aria Sivick, two freshman students undeclared in the S.I. Newhouse of Public Communications, jumped out of their seats grabbing his fork and knife, respectively.

“I took his knife when he left, no shame, no regrets,” said Sivick.

Adam Gold, the owner of Funk ‘n Waffles, admittedly did not recognize the pop star.

“Well basically, I didn’t really recognize the guy, but all of a sudden about 100 young girls entered the room and started ordering iced coffees, which was interesting because we are really known for our waffles,” Gold said.

“So we were wondering what was happening, so about an hour and twenty minutes after they ordered, Jonas and his crew got their food to go. I think they were a little over it, with all the eyes on him, I think.”

Gold believes the musician ordered chicken ‘n waffles.
