Running backs coach Mike Hart is leaving his position at Syracuse to take the same job at Indiana, Syracuse Athletics confirmed.
Hart joined the staff last January after spending three years with Eastern Michigan and two years at Western Michigan. He’s a local who played high school football, and set records, at Onondaga Central High School. He then went on to be an All-Big 10 player at Michigan and played three years with the Indianapolis Colts.
The Orange running game struggled in Hart’s lone year. SU was second-to-last in the Atlantic Coast Conference in rushing yards per game (119.6) and last in rushing yards per carry (3.2). The top two rushers in the ACC — FSU’s Dalvin Cook (1,765) and Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson (1,571) — had more rushing yards than Syracuse had as a team all season (1,435).
“I enjoyed working with Coach Hart and appreciate what he did for our program in his short time at Syracuse,” head coach Dino Babers said in a statement. “I wish him the best in his new position at Indiana.”
Syracuse’s spring practices start on March 21, with the Spring Showcase game slated for April 22.
