Former East Carolina guard Elijah Hughes to transfer to Syracuse
Former East Carolina guard Elijah Hughes will transfer to Syracuse and have three years of eligibility starting in the fall of 2018.
Hughes, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound wing from Beacon, New York, was on a visit to SU on Wednesday. He played at South Kent (Connecticut) School with SU forward Matthew Moyer before playing one season at East Carolina. He averaged 7.8 points per game as a true freshman after missing eight games due to a foot injury. He started in seven games and averaged 20.5 minutes per game for the Pirates.

Hughes, a three-star recruit coming out of high school, was also interested in transferring to Seton Hall and Iona. He is Syracuse’s first addition since March 16, when class of 2017 guard Howard Washington committed to SU.
Last year, transfer Andrew White led SU in scoring with 18.5 points per game. Fellow transfer John Gillon averaged 10.5 points per game after taking over the starting point guard role one-third of the way into the season.
