Support The Daily Orange’s mission as a nonprofit newsroom

As its paper of record for 114 years, The Daily Orange is committed to serving the greater Syracuse University community through award-winning, independent journalism produced in its nonprofit newsroom. The ability to follow relevant stories outside central New York is an essential part of this mission, and the editorial board hopes readers will consider supporting its work.

During the 2016-17 academic year, The D.O. sent teams of reporters to New York City and Washington, D.C. to cover a historic Inauguration Day. That year, The D.O. Sports staff also traveled more than 33,000 miles to 15 states and Canada to cover SU athletics. This includes the story written about Mike Hopkins after the former Syracuse men’s basketball coach took a head-coaching job at the University of Washington. The piece, which was fully funded by donations, was named one of the best sports stories of the year by the Associated Collegiate Press.

Now, The D.O. is gearing up to send reporting teams to Omaha, Nebraska, and Washington, D.C., respectively, as Syracuse takes on Duke in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and Syracuse students participate in the national March for Our Lives protest against gun violence.

We’ve asked readers to connect with us, challenge us, help us and pitch us. And as The D.O. continues to cover these stories, we ask that you support us, too.

To donate, please visit dailyorange.com. Checks can also be made out to The Daily Orange and mailed to our office at 744 Ostrom Ave. Please contact editor@dailyorange.com with any concerns, questions and suggestions.

The Daily Orange Editorial Board serves as the voice of the organization and aims to contribute the perspectives of students to discussions that concern Syracuse University and the greater Syracuse community. The editorial board’s stances are determined by a majority of its members. You can read more about the editorial board here. Are you interested in pitching a topic for the editorial board to discuss?
