Schine Student Center will be open 24/7 starting next school year, according to a University Senate budget report.
The report was discussed Wednesday at the Senate’s January meeting. A Syracuse University spokesperson confirmed Schine’s new hours in an email.
SU launched a multimillion-dollar renovation project at the 34-year-old complex in May 2019. Most of Schine has been closed off since then. The building is expected to reopen in fall 2020.
The university is devoting an additional 8,600 square feet of Schine to student activities, Chancellor Kent Syverud announced last year. SU’s Disability Cultural Center, Office of Multicultural Affairs and LGBT Resource Center will occupy a shared space in the renovated Schine.
The Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience is using $30 million to upgrade Schine in fiscal year 2020, according to the Senate budget report.
Schine closed at midnight on different days of the week in 2018, internet archives show.
