What Syracuse University’s decision to divest from fossil fuels means for students and the school

Last Tuesday, Syracuse University announced that it was formally divesting from fossil fuels. That means that direct investments in fossil fuels as part of the school’s $1.2 billion endowment are prohibited. The announcement comes after student groups such as Divest SU advocated for divestment over the past few years.
