Syracuse and Clarkson each committed six penalties in Saturday's loss.

The Clarkson University Golden Knights defeated SU (2-5-1, 2-2 College Hockey America) 4-3 in non-conference action on Saturday. The defending national champions scored just one minute and 20 seconds into overtime to seal the vicotry.

Once again, penalties handicapped an Orange attack that scored three times in 20 shots on goal. While both teams committed six penalties, Clarkson made the most of their opportunities with two power play goals.

The first power-play goal was quickly answered by freshman Lauren Bellefontaine on a penalty shot in the second period. The second goal came in the third period to give Clarkson a 2-1 advantage.

The loss overshadows a brilliant performance by Allie Munroe, who scored twice in just over a minute. Her second goal was backhanded just over Clarkson goalie Kassidy Suave’s right shoulder with 32 seconds left to play to tie the game 3-3. Bellefontaine, who assisted on Munroe’s first goal, also finished with two points.

Junior goalie Ady Cohen made 19 saves on 23 shots.

SU resumes conference play on Friday when they travel to take on Penn State (4-4-1, 0-1-0 College Hockey America at 6 pm.
