Syracuse swept College Hockey America’s weekly awards following back-to-back wins against Mercyhurst over the weekend, the conference announced on Monday. Senior captain Allie Munroe was named Player of the Week, Abby Moloughney won Rookie of the Week and Ady Cohen earned Goalie of the Week honors. It was Moloughney and Cohen’s first times receiving their respective awards and Munroe’s first of the season.
After not playing for a week-and-a-half, the Orange returned to action last Friday against Mercyhurst in Erie, Pennsylvania. Munroe had three assists and was plus-1 in the 6-5 win. Syracuse blew a two-goal lead in the third, but a late Brooke Avery goal was the difference with the lone assist going to Munroe. Moloughney scored the game’s opening goal and was also plus-1.
The next day, Syracuse won comfortably, 4-0, on the back of a goal and two assists by Munroe. The senior captain was also a plus-2 for the game. Moloughney tallied a pair of assists and was plus-2 as well. Maddi Welch gave up five goals on Friday and was replaced by Cohen for Saturday’s contest. The junior goaltender earned a 21-save shutout, her first of the season, and moved to a 2-1 record in conference play. In three starts, Cohen has allowed 1.64 goals against and posted a .918 save percentage.
Syracuse resumes play on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Rochester Institute of Technology before returning home the following day to take on the Tigers again.
