Syracuse field hockey still stands at No. 7 in this week’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll after defeating both No. 15 Wake Forest and unranked Colgate. Last week, the Orange jumped four spots after shutting out then-No. 5 North Carolina.
Laura Graziosi also received Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of The Week. During last week’s matches, Syracuse only allowed one goal in total and no more than four shots each game. Graziosi also completed two game-altering penalty goals against both Colgate and Wake Forest and increased her total goal count to five. Graziosi is the third Syracuse player to achieve ACC Defensive Player of The Week this season, with midfielder Carolin Hoffmann and defender SJ Quigley also receiving honors.
Syracuse defeated Wake Forest 2-1 and shutout unranked Colgate with a 3-0 win. The Orange (10-2, 3-0 ACC) are nearing the end of their schedule and riding an eight-game win streak — their best since 2015, when they went undefeated in the regular season and won the NCAA Championship.
Despite the run, Syracuse has had issues with converting on penalty corners and its high-volume shot count. In the Orange’s most recent game against Colgate, SU shot 33 times and received 13 corners but only scored three goals.
SU will go on the road this Saturday to face off against No. 23 Duke, and it will later return home to play No. 14 Virginia on Oct. 22.
