Io Echo to open for Jukebox the Ghost in last Bandersnatch concert of the semester

Emerging band Io Echo, whose sound is described by its members as “future space rock” and “romantic but dark,” will open for Jukebox the Ghost on Tuesday in the final Bandersnatch Music Series concert of the semester.

“We think the choice fits because it has the potential to attract a new audience,” said Sarah Fleisher, director of public relations for University Union, in an email. “IO ECHO is known for their high quality production so it will be an awesome start to the night.”

The duo, made up of Ioanna Gika and Leopold Ross, has performed with artists such as Florence and the Machine, Nine Inch Nails and Bloc Party. Gika sings and plays guitar, piano and the Japanese koto harp, while Ross is in charge of guitar, bass and programming.

Io Echo’s self-titled extended play was released last October, and its debut album, “Ministry of Love,” is due out April 2. After playing at Syracuse University, the band will begin a tour with 90s alternative rock group Garbage and Welsh band The Joy Formidable.

Doors for the show open at 7:30 p.m., with the concert set for 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Schine Student Center Box Office and are $5 for all SU and State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry students and staff, and $8 for the general public.
