Desko says Galasso sidelined with upper-body injury
Syracuse attack-midfielder Nicky Galasso suffered an upper-body injury in the first week of practice and is out indefinitely, Syracuse head coach John Desko announced in a statement.
“Nicky sustained an upper-body injury during the first week of practice,” Desko said. “It’s not season-ending. He’s being treated by our medical staff and we hope to have him back soon.”
Galasso, a redshirt junior, received a medical redshirt last year after being injured during the preseason. He missed all of last year with a stress fracture in his right foot after transferring to Syracuse.
The West Islip, N.Y., product was limited to nine points and 13 games at North Carolina the previous season as he attempted to return from an injury to his other foot.
This season, Galasso was in competition for both attack and midfield positions. His injury will create more of an opportunity for freshman Jordan Evans.
Galasso was the No. 1 recruit in the country coming out of West Islip High School and won the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year Award in 2011, setting UNC freshman records for points (56) and assists (32).
Galasso still has two years of eligibility remaining at Syracuse.
